The Match
Texts
James: Young actor
Wylla: Young actress
Charles: Director
Victoria: Casting director
Note: In different - almost same parallel realities we see James, Wylla, Charles and Victoria sharing almost the same text in almost the same scenarios.
One
(on set, a living room with brown carpets and red velvet couches, a big invasive lamp is hanging from the ceiling)
James: (loud and romantically) Your eyes on my skin, oh baby, combing my barely visible hairs
Wylla: (whispering to James) You’re looking straight into the camera even though the director told you not to. (taking two steps towards the right side of the living room) The floor is wet.. (looking at Charles) The floor is wet??
Charles: Cut!
Wylla: The floor is wet, Charles? Who wrote this? (whispering to James) You look so confused, as if this was the first time you were doing this
Charles: Can we gather please?
Two
(in the bedroom of Victoria and Charles house)
Victoria: (while getting dressed) Fuck I’m late! And the doors are locked!
Charles: (reading the newspaper) There aren’t any doors in this room Victoria (pause) (talking to himself) actually there is a double door in the other room (explaining to Victoria) not two separate doors but a double door, one door next to the other
Victoria: (pause) Exactly (small pause) Charles. That’s what I meant. (she continues getting dressed) I’m late and I was planning to leave through that double door dramatically, (mimicking the action with a proud smile) swinging them both open and letting them slam shut on my way out!
Charles: Sweet
Victoria: But they are locked
Charles: Well, that’s tomorrow’s problem for me. I need to interview the girl band for the concert scene. I’m done wasting perfectly fine film on amateurs (scratching his head with both hands)
Three
(in James dressing room, James is putting his makeup on, Victoria is standing in the room choosing his costume)
James: So, here’s my exit plan, I’m on my way out but (pause) both doors are locked.
Victoria: Actually, it’s not two separate doors but a double door, one door next to the other
James: ..And what if, while I’m trying to walk through the doors, a potion consisting of honey, water and pepper is dripping from my fingertips and making puddles as I walk?
Victoria: (ironical and passive aggressive) Ah yes, and what if you were also leaving behind you white flakes of dried scalp falling down your cashmere covered shoulders
James: (pause) interesting
Victoria: (to herself) I need to recast the protagonist.
Four
(on set, in the living room of a modern loft with big windows looking over a lake)
James: (loud and romantically) A potion consisting of honey, water and pepper is dripping from my fingertips and making the floor wet!
Wylla: (whispering to James) You’re looking straight into the camera even though the director told you not to.
James: (still looking into the camera) That’s tomorrow’s problem!
Wylla: (whispering to James) I am waving next to the camera, making funny faces in order to distract you, stop it!
James: (looking to the horizon) I will now execute my exit plan!
Wylla: (whispering to James) Seriously, I get so exhausted from all the waving that I have to take a break
James: (loudly to Wylla) Your eyes on my skin, oh baby (taking her by the shoulders) comb my barely visible hairs! The floor is wet. A potion consisting of honey, water and pepper is dripping from my fingertips, making the floor sweet for you!
(Wylla looks at Charles)
(Charles is on his way out but finds the doors locked)
